Love's Timeless Dance by Vivian Knight-Jenkins is set in the Highlands
of Scotland and is the first time travel story I have read where the heroine
does not travel back to this time and find herself living in a Scottish
Castle. From this aspect alone the story is unique.
Leeanne Sullivan is a dancer and choreographer. While rehearsing the Blades of War dance in the studio she finds herself firstly, swept up in the passion of the dance and secondly, swept into the year 1692.
Disoriented and confused Leeanne finds herself at the wedding party of Sesi and Parlan completing the Blades of War dance for the entertainment of the guests.
Mistaken for a previous lover of the grooms Leeanne finds herself removed from the hall by the bride's handsome brother Iain MacBride.
After spending the night in his cottage Leeanne finds herself in a compromising situation by the standards of the local people, and subsequently she is "handfasted" to Iain MacBride to save her reputation.
Iain MacBride is tormented by the death of his first wife in child birth and is adamant that he will not inflict that death on anyone again. When his is forced to save Leeanne's reputation he chooses handfasting knowing that after a year and a day they can part and continue with their lives.
Leeanne realises too late what it means to be handfasted to someone but nevertheless makes the best of her situation. Striving to keep secret that she has come from another time she finds that as a sassenach she knows nothing of the ways of the Highlanders. The codes of honour and hospitality are alien to her and seem at odds with common sense.
When danger comes to the Highlands in the form of an army she tries to remember the history she is now living but cannot recall the events she is about to witness. Her only hope is to obtain Iain's sword and find an opportunity to perform the Blades of War again, in the hope that it will send her back to the twentieth century.
But the longer Leeanne stays in the past the more she is drawn to remain there with her "husband". Convinced that the Blades of War will send her home she hopes that she can find a way to take Iain with her and away from the danger.
But can she convince him to let go of the past and foresake his honour for a future with her?
And if he did would he ever forgive her, or himself?
An enchanting and original story that shows a uniquely different side to Scotland than the one normally portrayed in time travel stories.
