A Knight in
      Shining Armor

A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude DeverauxA Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux is one of the few books where the hero time travels first.  Though a number of novels have the hero going into the future at the end of the story, this is only the second one I have read where he travels to the future to meet his true love.

Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyke was executed on a charge of treason in 1564, but on the night before his death he heard through time the sounds of a woman weeping and found himself in the year 1988 standing a few feet away from his own tomb.

Given the opportunity to delve into his past in safety Nicholas leaps at this chance and enlists the help of Dougless Montgomery, who had been abandoned by her boyfriend with no money, transport or way of getting home to America.

Together they embark on a journey through England in search of the answers to the innocent Nicholas's execution.  But it is only after they make love and Nicholas returns to the past that Dougless realises the extent of the danger surrounding him.  So she travels into the past herself where she has to convince Nicholas of the truth.

But things are not as easy as Dougless would have liked, for she travels further back in time than the time Nicholas came from, and who would believe her tales of time travel without accusing her of witchcraft.

Dougless sets about to convince Nicholas by telling him of his future and that of his family but as she does so she finds herself in even deeper trouble, for now she is rewriting history and the course is more bumpy than she could ever have imagined.

A fantastic story with lots of twists to the plot, but I would have preferred a different ending to the actual one.  Without ruining the plot for others, I would just say that I am sure many others feel the same way about this.  But despite the ending this is a great book.
