Drums of Autumn

Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon
Drums of Autumn is the fourth book in Diana Gabaldon's  Outlander or Cross Stitch Series and picks up where  Voyager left off.

Drums of Autumn begins in Charleston in the the year 1767, and follows Jamie and Claire's travels through America as they seek to settle in the New World and build their lives there with their friends and family.

But they each know that this cannot be forever.  Not only is the American revolution set to come but Claire knows for a fact that Jamie will die in Scotland, though she knows not when or how.

Up until now the only travelers through the stones have been Claire and Geillis Duncan.  This is set to change as Brianna and Roger travel back into the past in search of Claire and Jamie.

As they travel across the ocean and America in search of Brianna's parents they are soon embroiled in adventures of their own as the young lovers find that the task they set themselves was not as easy as it first appeared.

This book is touching in the extreme as Brianna and Jamie meet for the first time and due to misunderstandings and the differences in their centuries they find that as father and daughter they have lots of compromising to do in order to be a family.

Without going into too much detail this book is easily the best sequel to Outlander published to date.  Though at the time of writing my personal favourite of the series is the first novel.

The Fiery Cross is the next instalment in the Claire and Jamie saga.
