Wolfkin

Wolfkin by Elaine Corvidae is the first book in her Lord of Wind and Fire series.

Wolfkin is set in an entirely different world where the human race is not the only race on the planet.

The hero of Wolfkin is in fact of a different race entirely.

Yozerf is not human and having had a harsh upbringing in the cities of humans he is very untrusting of them.

Yozerf begins his story when he is summoned by the wizard Ax who calls in the favour of saving his life.  Yozerf is not happy about the favour but knows that he has no choice but to obey the wizard.

And so he begins his quest to seek out Trethya and protect her from harm.

Trethya is on the run and has vital knowledge with regard to her imprisoned queen Rozah.  Yozerf is not the only one who has been sent to her though.

Suchen, a female steward and a number of the Sworn (warriors) are also sent to bring Trethya to safety and to ascertain that what she knows about the Queen of Jenel is true.

But there are shapechangers and others who would see Trethya returned to Jenel and it will take all their resources and a great deal of courage to complete the dangerous mission.

Suchen has not had the best of upbringings.  Mentally abused by her father, she and her brother fled their home when they were still young.  Now she has worked her way to a high position and knows that her childhood friend is going to propose marriage.  It is with some relief that she goes on the mission and can avoid answering the question of her future.  But through the long journey Suchen finds herself drawn closer to the mistrusting Yozerf and finds herself wanting to be with the mysterious and cautious Aclytese heir more than her safe and stable sweetheart.

But can Yozerf overcome his mistrust of humans and let her close to him.

A tender love story intertwined with actionn, adventure and several surprises sets off the Lord of Wind and Fire series to a promising start.
