Unleashed by C J Barry is another of her futuristic romances "starring" another of the men introduced in the fantastic Unearthed.

Lacey Garrett's fiancé had run off with her business and money and left her with nothing...apart from his cat.

When she answers an internet request for help from Zainman she receives back a strange message about looking at the stars.  Thinking it is a poor pick up line she ignores it.  But Zainman is not about to ignore her.

Zain Masters is stuck on a planet with no way off of it without being destroyed.  The hostile creatures of the planet at closing in on him and he is so desperate for help he sends out a message that Lacey responds to.  Thinking her the answer to his prayers he beams her to him in the belief that she can solve the mystery of the symbols that are halting his getting off of the planet.

At first Lacey believes that she is dreaming but the longer she, and Oliver the cat, are trapped with Zain the more she realises that as fantastic as it seems she has in fact been abducted by the handsome starship captain.

Zain has spent years running from his past and the danger that seems to surround him.  He spends his time mapping unknown star sytems and exploring.  Alone since the death of his partner he blames himself for her death and is determined not to let the same thing happen again.  He keeps his friends and family at a safe distance and his only companion is his faithful ship Reene, a highly intelligent and advanced computer built into his craft.

What Zain does not realise is that the planet he has stumbled onto is at the centre of a conspiracy he had been close to uncovering when his partner had died.  Now his past has not so much caught up with him as he has run back into it.

With the monsters on the planet, who Lacey names Bobzillas (a cross between her ex and Godzilla) attacking at every opportunity Zain and Lacey must befriend the other inhabitants of the world if they are going to get out of there alive. 

It will take precision planning and lots of courage, and the longer Lacey remains with Zain the more she believes that perhaps she is up to the job after all.

With everything that has happened Zain knows that it is his fault that Lacey is in danger but he vows that he will see her safely home...whether she wants to go or not and no matter the cost to his heart.

Another wonderful futuristic romance from C J Barry.  Entertaining and amusing, the adventure of Lacey and Zain is another great addition to this continuing series.
