Undead and Unwed

Undead and Unwed by Mary Janice Davidson

Undead and Unwed by Mary Janice Davidson is a book that was previously available as an e-book but has now been released in paperback.  And not before time.

Elizabeth Taylor - and she has heard all of the jokes - is a woman who is having a very bad day, even before she dies.

Betsy as she is known to her friends had been laid off from her job as a secretary.  But this is the least of her problems when she finds herself rising as a vampire.

Not only does she not know what has happened - after all she had been hit by a car and this is not usually how the undead find their ends - but her stepmonster has dressed her in her old cast offs for burial and stolen all her shoes.

So Betsy decides that she is not going to take this lying down and is determined to carry on with her life as normal.  After breaking the good news to her parents and friends she decides to continue as normal as she can, though she knows she will have to take the night shifts as she falls asleep during the day.

It is not long before the vampires in the local community learn about Betsy and she is brought before them to choose which side she will be taking in the local feud.  Betsy wants none of it and does not realise how much danger she is in...for unlike the other vampires in the area she is different.  Holy water does not burn her, sunlight does not kill her...she is different and as soon as the others find out she is in more danger than she imagined.

Betsy soon realises that she wants no part of either side of the feud but they will not leave her alone...her coming has been foretold for centuries and whether she likes it or not she is part of a prophecy that will proclaim her the new Vampire Queen.

So what is a new vampire to do...her options are clear, she can take sides with the obnoxious but sexy Sinclair, or she can become a vigilante killer for her new friend Marc, or she can continue to add to her shoe collection and take each day as it comes.

This book is a riot.  I giggled and laughed my way through it. Something that I have not done for years.  Most books with a humorous vein will get a laugh from me every now and then but not anywhere near as much as this one did.

The heroine is so laid back about her new status as a vampire it is hysterical.  For instance when one of the local vampires phones her apartment and asks what she is doing there picking up the phone when she is dead, she gives the most obvious answer...because it rang!

This book does not have the usual ending for a romance novel but if you are looking for something light and amusing and slightly different this is well worth picking up.  And there is a sequel to follow.
