Traveler

Traveler by Elaine FoxTraveler by Elaine Fox is part of the Timeswept series.  This is the story of a man transported from a battle field of the Civil War into a park in the 20th Century.

Shelby Manning is walking her dog when she comes across a disoriented stranger who is wounded from a fight.  Thinking him a historical re-enactor she takes him home with her to  tend to his wounds.  But he is more seriously injured than she first assumed and he is soon taken to the hospital where she leaves him.

Carter Lindsey is a soldier for the Union who has just witnessed the death of many people, some of them friends.  Wishing himself as far away from the battle as possible he is startled to find himself in the 20th century where women are independent and one particular woman is irresistible.

Shelby cannot believe that he is a time traveller and convinces herself that he is a re-enactor who through his injury is now suffering a form of amnesia.   Feeling somewhat responsible for him she takes him into her home until his memory returns, to the fury of her boyfriend.

The fact that the heroine of the story has a boyfriend and that Carter has a wife in the past are two of the more unusual aspects of this book.  Also the fact that the story is told entirely from the viewpoint of Shelby makes this a unique novel in more ways than one.

Carter is a man of honour and he cannot reconcile himself to the fact that he wants to remain in the future with Shelby, while his helpless wife is in the past, possibly carrying his child.  But this is what history says happened and when they discover the date they think Carter can return on Shelby must learn to live without the man she has grown to love or to find some way to keep him with her.

But how can she convince a man of honour to leave his wife for another woman?
