A
Touch of Enchantment by Teresa Medeiros is one of my favourite time travel
books because it has the unusual twist of real witchcraft in it.
While most of the time travellers are accused of witchcraft this is one of the few that has a real witch for a heroine.
The sequel to Breath of Magic, you don't have to read the first book to read this one. I didn't and it was not until later that I discovered that Breath of Magic existed.
This book is the story of the beautiful heiress Tabitha Lennox, daughter of Tristan and Arian Lennox, the main characters in Breath of Magic.
Tabitha has inherited from her parents both wealth, brains and her mother's talent for witchcraft. Steering her life away from the supernatural she devotes all her time to science, leaving no time for anything else, including holidays and men.
She regrets that the only boy she ever kissed was accidentally turned into a frog.
After being informed of the death of her parents, her mother (by way of a futuristic video) tells her of the amulet that enabled her to travel to the future. Finding the amulet she decides to check it out with the help of her computer. This results in her being catapulted into the past.
Undaunted at first she is more angry with what she thinks to be her mother's idea of a way to get her to take a vacation, or worse still set her up on a blind date.
After a while though she begins to realise that she is trapped medieval times and her amulet is in the possession of the fearless knight Sir Colin of Ravenshaw.
Using her witchcraft to save the life of another she puts herself at the mercy of Sir Colin as he fights his feelings for her.
Filled with twists to the plot Tabitha and Colin combine forces to keep her alive and save the remains of his people from the threat of the evil Brisbane who has discovered the truth about Tabitha and wants the power of her amulet for himself.
