The Very Thought
      of You

The Very Thought of You by Lynn Kurland

The Very Thought of You by Lynn Kurland is not a part of the Time Passages series but is the sequel to A Dance Through Time, the first of the series.

The Very Thought of You picks up several months after A Dance Through Time finished and starts once again in the at Castle MacLeod in the Scottish Highlands.

Alexander and Zachary Smith have now given up the United States indefinitely and have taken up residence with Elizabeth and Jamie and their band of time travelling friends.

Alexander has now completely given up the rat race for a more leisurely life in Scotland where the worst things he has to face are an empty fridge and a stubborn horse.

On finding a map in the library Alex realises that Jamie and Elizabeth have been experimenting with the prospect of time travelling through the forest and the other magical places of the area.  Unable to resist he heads out to where he believes he will find the portal sending him through time to Barbados, Barbados of the 17th century but still a better prospect than cold and rainy Scotland.

But Alex is not very good at following the directions of the map and instead of 17th century Barbados he finds himself stepping through an "undignified" fairy ring and into England 1194 where he is captured by Edward Brackwald.

Caught up in the intrigues of medieval life Alex is mistaken for Edward himself by Margaret of Falconberg and is kidnapped once more.

Margaret of Falconberg has kept hidden the fact that her father has died for a number of years and has kept the castle and lands running smoothly for just as long.  Now her secret is out and she is being forced into marriage with her neighbour Ralf of Brackwald, an event that she will do anything to prevent.

Alex who has had enough of fighting after his battles with Jamie knows that he can handle a sword but declines to do so.  But when he finds himself falling for Margaret he realises that he must pick up a sword once more and fight to win himself a title and her hand in marriage.

The fairy ring is closed to him and he cannot find a way to return to the future so the only choice left to him is to build a life in the past and since he cannot see a life without Margaret he has no choice in the matter.

Striving to earn his title Alex is unprepared for the appearance in the past of his family, and once he has got over his initial fury and being deprived of Barbados he is newly angered at the fact that there does not seem to be a way for him to make a life with Margaret.  The fairy ring only seems to open when there is something in another time that needs doing and no matter how they try there is no way for the portal to work on command.

Can Alex and Margaret find a way to make a life together in whatever time they can or are they destined to be separated forever by time and fate?

A wonderful sequel that is much more lengthy than A Dance Through Time.   It took me a little while to get into this novel (possibly because I had to keep putting it down to study :-) but once I got into it I found it as enthralling as the first.

I hope to read more about this highly entertaining family.  By my estimation it is Zach's turn next...okay hopefully one day soon.  That should prove very entertaining if Lynn Kurland has a story planned for him too.
