Tempest in Time

Tempest in Time by Eugenia Riley

Tempest in Time by Eugenia Riley is part of the Timeswept series and is two time travel novels in one.

With similar names and almost identical appearances Missy Monroe and Melissa Montgomery are both in the same situation - about to marry men they do not love.

Melissa is timid, shy and living in 1852.  Against her better judgement she is to marry the domineering Fabian Fontenot.

Missy is the 1990's career girl, spoilt and selfish she is an only child used to getting her own way.  She is now about to marry Jeff Dalton, a quiet man who she does not love.

Then on the 29th of February, the day of the weddings so many years apart both brides take a tumble down the identical stair cases in their identical dresses and suddenly find themselves with new families, new lives and new bridegrooms.

From the very start the families of the women notice the differences in the demeanours of the two women, and both families breath private thanks for the changes.

Melissa soon finds that she is suited to the 1990's and she is far more comfortable with her new quiet living parents than she ever was with her own rather brash 1850's family.  And Jeff is a far less frightening groom than Fabian.

Missy however finds life a little more difficult to come to terms with.  Her new family is just like herself and she realises quickly that she cannot bully them as she could her real parents.  Nor can she twist Fabian around her little finger as she did Jeff.  And while Melissa is making herself at home in the Missy's life Missy herself is desperate to return to the future.

Glimpsing each other through the mysterious stone which seems to be at the bottom of the time travel episode Melissa realises that Missy wants to return and is torn between her fear of returning to her own life and the guilt of taking her happiness at the expense of someone else.

Knowing that her time could be limited Melissa seizes what happiness she can with Jeff while Missy sets about making progress for the liberation of women in the 1852, a move that does not sit well with Fabian, who is much more intrigued with his new bride than he was with his old one.

A wonderful story of time travel romance which is, as I said before, two books in one, and each one as enthralling as the other.
