      Dragonswan by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Dragonswan by Sherrilyn Kenyon is her real introduction to the world of the were-hunters and explains wonderfully how they came to exist.  Now I know that in one of her other novels the were-hunters history was mentioned but I admit that I did have trouble following what had happened.  This book however explains it wonderfully and opens the world of the were-hunters to those already hooked on her dark-hunters.

Sebastian is a were-hunter and a banished Sentinel. He is part dragon and has travelled to the future to steal a tapestry in payment of a ransom for his brother's life.  Having been alone for two hundred years he is constantly on the run from both his own kind, the Arcadians and their enemy the Katagaria.

It is in the future that he meets and spends an evening with Channon who is working on translating the tapestry. However she is not prepared to believe all he says about who he is even though he has told her nothing but the truth. He does leave out some rather large facts though.

Sebastian is coming to leave the future where he cannot remain when there appears on his hand the symbol that he has been mated, to Channon, against his will.  Returning to her side he asks a sleepy Channon to come home with him, and she agrees.  Not being entirely awake.

When she wakes she finds herself in the past but does not realise exactly why.  Taking it as a short trip Sebastian promises to return her home, especially when he realises just what danger he has placed her in by bringing her back in time with him.

But Sebastian's past is about to catch up with them and it is too late for Channon to avoid being targeted.

A short but powerful story of the were-hunters.  It is also one of the few short stories that brought me close to tears.  Few short stories can do that to me as I find them too short to start feeling for the characters but in this case you are pulling into the story from the very start.  An excellent introduction to the were-hunter world.

Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning

Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning is the story of a mortal who agreed to be imprisoned by the Unseelie King for five years. He never knew that he had been tricked into the deal and that it was in fact five hundred years.

The Seelie Queen cannot directly interfere but knows that at the end of five hundred years Aedan will be given one month in the mortal world and if he can find true love in that time he will be freed.  Otherwise he will be in the service of the Unseelie King forever.  But after five hundred years of torture and pain there is little remaining of Aedan.

The Seelie Queen knows that the quest will be difficult but she weaves a tapestry which is designed to bring his true love to him.  Jane Sillee is the recipient of the tapestry and is amazed to find it bears the likeness of a man that she has dreamed about all of her life.  She does not know that she had been dreaming of a real man and that they have actually been meeting together in the Dreaming.

Sent back in time to Aedan she has her work cut out in convincing the man who calls himself Vengeance that he is the man that she loves and that he loves her, even if he can't remember anything about her or his past.

A touching and endearing story makes this a wonderful addition for any Karen Marie Moning fan's shelf.  I did wonder what happened to the Unseelie King and Seelie Queen however.  They had a rather abrupt departure from the story.
