Sweeter Savage Love

Sweeter Savage Love by Sandra HillSweeter Savage Love by Sandra Hill is part of her ongoing contributions to the Timeswept series.  According to the front cover it is also part of the Legendary Lovers series, though, to date, this is the only one I have ever come across in my search for tales of time travel.

As with her other novels of this series there are many familiar characters making fleeting appearances.

For Etienne Baptiste is none other than the brattish stepson of Selene, the time travelling model of  Frankly, My Dear...

But Etienne is no longer a small child raising hell, he is a grown man who has lived through the Civil War and now has to find a way to get paid for his services during the war to pay for the renovation of Bayou Noir, which since it's abandonment by his father has fallen into disrepair.  And he will let nothing and no one distract him from this mission.

Dr Harriet Ginoza is a psychologist advising women on sexual fantasies of the modern woman.  And while she adamantly refuses to condone the fantasies she cannot resist them as they draw her through time in her dreams.

Each day she awakens from the seductive dreams, but her problems begin on the day her dreams become a reality.  When her train derails she is woken from sleep to see a gun slinger, who is the image of her dream man, who not only insists that it is his room but that he is not going to seduce her, for he has more important matters to attend to which do not involve her.

Not entirely convinced that this whole setup is real she tries to establish whether or not she is dreaming.  For the Steve of her dreams is very much like the Etienne of her reality and as the dream had stripped her of her inhibitions so too does this reality.  Openly informing him of both her time travel predicament, erotic dreams and her new book about female fantasies it is not long before she is irritating him with her expert advice, worldly opinions and never-ending chatter.  And he is grating on her nerves with his chauvinistic opinions and thoroughly stubborn attitude.

Trapped in the past until the completion of the railway that will hopefully send her home, Harriet sets about seducing the man she should despise but can't resist.  And is the 19th century chauvinist any match for the 20th century psychologist with a bag of tricks up her sleeve?

      I doubt it.

This novel also gives us a glimpse into what happened to Selene and James in the years after their own story ended.  I would suggest that if you don't like to know any of the plot then you read them in the order of Frankly, My Dear, Desperado and finally Sweeter Savage Love.  If there are any more to this wonderful series please let me know.
