Time-Spun Treasure

Time-Spun Treasure by Thomasina RingTime-Spun Treasure by Thomasina Ring is part of the Timeswept series and like the others of this series is worth a place on any time travel romance reader's shelf.

This is the story of Meredith Davis who is thrust back in time by a bolt of lightning.

One minute she is a docent, solving the problems of the actors who have assembled at St John's Church for a historical re-enactment, the next she is at in the year 1774 and holding the abandoned baby of Sylvia Wetzel.

Mistaken for the mother of the child she is taken by Benjamin Foxworth, her future brother-in-law to his plantation where she is to wed the father of the child in a hasty marriage.

But his brother Joshua, Sylvia's betrothed is as crafty as he and his brother are handsome.  He disappears across the sea to England after convincing everyone that she is indeed Sylvia.

The honourable Benjamin cannot let her remain unwed with her child and steps into his brother's place with a vow that the marriage shall be one of convenience only.

But as they are thrown together they find themselves inevitably falling in love.

Their happiness is not fated to last as an unknown person in the house threatens the lives of all within.

Matters are further complicated when Sylvia's father arrives at the house and exposes Meredith as an impostor.  Benjamin dissolves the marriage at this news and hires Meredith as a governess for his daughter by his first marriage and the new baby when he is older.  But still the shadows of danger remain.

With Benjamin as her only confidant she slowly convinces him that her time travel experience did happen.  It is not so easy to prove that a deadly enemy is close by threatening their fragile happiness and even their lives.

Knowing that her time in the past is limited Meredith is torn by her desire to stay with Benjamin and taking her place in the course of history, for without her knowledge it appears that history as she remembers it could be changed and not for the better.

With a couple of very interesting sub-plots this story is set at the time preceding Patrick Henry's famous speech of "Give me liberty or give me death", a time where slavery is the norm for a plantation owner, and a time when honour and duty often outweigh the happiness and pleasure of an individual.

Can Meredith find happiness in the past or is she destined to leave as abruptly as she entered?
