Spring Enchantment by Christina Cordaire is part of the Haunting Hearts series published by Jove/Putnam Berkley and is the story of a murdered ghost who must bring together an unmarried couple so that he can be reunited with his own beloved, who unbeknown to him is also earthbound until his mission is complete.
 
 

Lady Anne Kent is a new widow with twin sons.  Decended from a traitor her family was shunned by society for many years until her marriage to the brutal Marquess of Kentwell.  Determined that her sons will not know the truth about their cruel father Lady Anne heads away from London and to Castle Caldon where the ghost of Jared St Legere awaits.

Captain of Dragoons, Sir John Kent was fighting abroad when he heard the news of the Marguess's death.  Charged with the supervision of his twin sons Sir John is less than happy to be called away to England, despite that fact that his health requires that he must rest.

Arriving in England Sir John's first encounter with Lady Anne is when he loses control of his carriage and nearly causes a collision with Lady Anne.  Not knowing their connection Lady Anne continues on her way while Sir John is returned home to recover from his collapse.

This being the case Lady Anne arrives at Castle Caldon some time ahead of Sir John and starts to make the most of her freedom for the first time in her life, by renovating the castle.

Jared St Legere notes the arrival of Lady Anne with anticipation.  He can tell that her life has not been a bed of roses and with no husband in sight he hopes that she is one half of the couple he must unite to be free of his earthly chains.

Sir John Kent arrives in England one of the first things that happens to him is that he is jilted for a Duke.  He is not ready for the ghost of Bethany who resides in the house he bought for his fiancée, though he makes an effort to put this vision down to his ill health.

Nor is he ready for the ghostly tricks of Jared and his two young helpers, Lady Anne's twins sons and his charges.  For when Sir John arrives at Castle Caldon Jared realises that this couple may be his last chance to end his ghostly existance.

Sir John is more concerned with the welfare of the twins than with romancing their mother.  Appalled by the condition of the Castle, the lack of servants and decorum of Lady Anne, Sir John decides that his quick visit to check on the boys must be extended indefinitely so that he can sort things out.  Or meddle as Lady Anne believes.

Lady Anne does not want Sir John disrupting her peace or putting her boys in danger as he teaches them to be men by playing boisterous games like climbing the tower.  She feels that the sooner he is out of their lives the better.

But the ghost of her ancestor is determined that they should make a life together and pulls out all the stops to bring the couple together.

A touching story of two people who are both suffering in their own way and are bought together by two mischievous ghosts and two troublesome twins.

A wonderful read that touches the heart.
