Spenceworth Bride

      Spenceworth Bride by Virginia Farmer

Spenceworth Bride by Virginia Farmer is the long awaited sequel to Sixpence Bride.  A book which I actually did not know had been released until recently.  Not sure how I managed to miss it but now here is the review.

Nelwina's tale is the other half of the story which when reading the first book it was clear that it was needed.

Nelwina had been sold on the block by her husband and finds a man who has paid a whole pound for her in the present day.

Not believing at first that she has travelled through time and knowing nothing about re-enactments Nelwina believes that the wife sale was real and that the man who has bought her is now going to be her husband.

Adam the new English Lord Spenceworth did not really want to take part in the re-enactment but goes along with it and "buys" the woman he has briefly met at Jocelyn.  Throwing the money to the seller he feels guilty when it causes his "bride" to fall and bang her head.  Taking her to the first aid tent she then talks of being someone by the name of Nelwina.  Thinking the bang on the head is the cause and feeling that it is all due to him, he takes her home to nearby Spenceworth.

They are soon joined by Adam's mother who takes an immediate liking to Nelwina and believes that she and Adam are engaged.  Bossy and opinionated (but in a likeable way) Sophia sets about making her son keep his promises and moves into Spenceworth for a while to visit.  She also sets about enlisting the help of Nelwina in opening the house to the public in order to make enough money to keep the place running.  She is surprised at Nelwina's knowledge of the property and when Nelwina says that she lived there in another century Sophia believes that she has lived there is a previous life, little realising that Nelwina has travelled through time.

Meanwhile in America Jocelyn's ex-fiancé is hot on her trail as he seeks to find her and cover his tracks in his illegal activities.

As Jocelyn had been warned, the one who had taken her place was not going to have as easy a time of things as she did.  And Nelwina didn't.  Nelwina is forced to come to terms with the modern world and her own feelings for Adam, all the while never knowing if Jocelyn will want to return to her own life and thus end her own trip through time too.

Another good time travel romance which tied up all the loose ends of the previous book.  A little predictable but on the whole not too bad.  I especially liked Sophia who really was a great character.  Nelwina was also a good character but I did find the hero Adam rather forgettable.  But maybe that was just me.
