Some Enchanted Evening

Some Enchanted Evening by Alice Alfonsi
Some Enchanted Evening by Alice Alfonsi is the story of Mary Jane Magorski and Sinjin the genie.

Set up by an evil genie centuries before the pirate Sinjin finds himself tricked into taking the place of the genie while the genie takes over his body.  Trapped in the bottle he is given to Mary as a birthday present on what turns out to be the worst day of her life.

When Mary was working hard towards her promotion the last thing she wanted was to be fired.  But that is just what happens.  And as if the day could get no worse she returns to her flat to find that she has been evicted and all of her belongings left on the street for her.

Packing everything into her car she heads to a motel where her troubles continue.  While fighting off the unwanted attentions of two drunks she throws Sinjin's bottle at them, thus releasing the genie who is now hers to command.

Thinking that it is all some sort of joke Mary wishes for a more comfortable bed for the night, a new car and a million dollars.

Since her first wish was just for the night the bed disappears with the morning.  With Sinjin nowhere in sight Mary puts it all down to an overactive imagination and dreams.  But when Sinjin returns to the motel complete with the goods from his shopping spree Mary begins to realise that maybe it wasn't a dream.

Things become even more complicated when she sees the shining new car outside of the motel and discovers that Sinjin's spending money came from the $1,000,000 appropriated from the local bank.

With the police hot on their heels Sinjin whisks them both to Las Vegas where the pirate finds work at a pirate show.

Sinjin settles into his role with ease while it is left to Mary to figure out just how to get out of the mess her genie has landed her in.  Sinjin's main concern is how to introduce Mary to the pleasures of love without breaking her heart when his time in the mortal realm is over.

Meanwhile the evil genie who imprisoned Sinjin is also after them, for he has discovered that he cannot live without the powers of the genie and the wealth it can bring.

A fast-paced and delightfully funny novel.  Ms Alfonsi has written one of the genie romance novels that all others should be compared to.  Definitely a keeper.
