Some Like it Hotter by Deb Stover time travel story with a difference.  For while many of the travellers are sent into the past by a freak accident the hero of this novel travels willingly into the past after selling his soul to the devil in exchange for the chance to relive the date of June the 19th.  The only problem is that while he meant the year 1997, the demon who grants his wish sends him to 1865.

The chance to relive the day that had just passed was an opportunity Mike Faricy would sell his soul for.  In the space of 24hours his best friend had been killed in a stakeout gone wrong.  Leaving his expectant sister a widow and himself without a partner.

But not all the news is bad.  For in the past he can track down the ancestor of the drug baron and by killing him he can change future history.

Arriving in the past he finds himself in the house of the beautiful Abigail Kingsley, a southern belle, bringing up her son without the assistance of a husband in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Lodging with Abigail he begins his search for his victim, but having an attractive woman around him with a lively son looking up to him for guidance can be rather a distraction.

But the devil is never far behind and takes the shape of many of the inhabitants of the time in order to keep Mike's mind on his task ahead and taunt him with clues as to what he should do to find the victim.

But when he finally finds his target Mike is unsure of whether he can really go through with it.  Can he kill a person innocent of no crime in order to save his brother-in-law and give his sister back the man she loves?

Or can Mike find another way of altering the past and save his soul for Abigail?
