Silver Rain by Barbara Sheridan is part of the Magical Love series.
In the year 1797 Alain Devereaux lost his beloved Brigette under the wheels of a carriage. Distraught with grief he turns to the local witch Odette and asks for a way to be reunited with his love.
Odette obliges by providing him with a potion that will put him into a trancelike sleep until Brigette is reborn into the world and able to accept that she has lived before and love him once again. In the meantime he will be guarded over by her family and from mother to daughter the task of protecting him will be passed.
When he wakes he will have but 30 days to find Brigette and convince her of his love and earn her love in return. If he should fail he will cease to exist.
Over 200 years later the task has fallen to Danielle Curtis also known as Silver Rain. But rather than be honoured by the task Dani is annoyed at the “sleeping beau” that dictates her every move. She holds him responsible for the break up of her parents’ marriage and the dashed dreams of Olympic glory she cherished as a child. The last straw is when the only man who has ever shown her any interest leaves her.
Angry with him and her ancestor’s spell casting she is nevertheless prepared when he wakes from his long sleep. Knowing her task is to help him find his lost love she is eager to do so and send him on his way so that she can start to live her own life again. Especially when he makes it clear that the attraction she feels towards him is in no way returned.
Uncertain whether she can help him or not she is honest enough to admit that she doubts herself and Alain attempts to enlist the help of her friend McKenna. But at her refusal Alain has no choice but to accept Dani’s help and hope that she can find the way to help him.
Alain knew that he had to find Brigette and that only then would he be given his life back. He does not have time for any type of relationship with Dani that does not involve her completing her duty to him and her family. That does not stop him being attracted to her though.
Even as they search for Brigette, Dani finds herself falling in love with Alain and as the 30 days pass she knows that time is running out. If she finds Brigette for him she will lose him to her and if she doesn’t she will lose him to the spell.
The decision is taken out of her hands however when Alain sees the image of his lost love on the television and Dani casts her spells to bring about their reconciliation even as it breaks her heart.
The time limit forever paramount in their minds Alain and Dani find that they are falling in love even as they know that they can have no future together. The only way Alain can survive at all is for Dani to let him go to another woman and pray to the Goddess that her interference and feelings for Alain have not ruined his only chance of happiness.
A great addition to the Magical Love series that offers an entirely new twist on the sleeping beauty tale and brings it right up to date with a flare that only Ms Sheridan can provide.
Humourous in parts, touching in others, this is a story that truly is
about looking beneath the surface to the beauty within and finding that
true love really can last forever.
