Silver Tomorrows

Silver Tomorrows by Susan PlunkettSilver Tomorrows by Susan Plunkett is the fifth book in the Time Passages series published by  Jove/Putnam Berkley.

Emily Fergeson is what can only be described as a doormat.  But not any longer!

After seeing one of her friends leading the way down the same path she finally realises that she can't spend her whole life pleasing others she sets out to make a new life for herself.

But the fates have determined that her new life should not be in the 20th century, for on the same day she makes her decision an earthquake sends her back in time to 1882 to a Colorada silver mine.

Lost in the aftermath of the quake she comes across the cabin on Teigue Jackson and his nephew Royle Tremaine.  Unable to send her into town alone they form a bargain where Emily is to work for them until they can escort her into town in about six weeks time.

Soon she and Teigue are closer than Emily and her natural father ever were.  But Royle is another matter entirely.  Stubborn and his mind set on only one goal, he will not let anyone stand in his way, not even Emily.

Royle survived the Civil War and, as the last of the Tremaine line, devoted the rest of his life to digging the mines until he had enough money to buy back his ancestral home and marry a woman of the right standing in the community.

Emily tries her hardest to teach him that his quest is not noble, but very wrong.  But it is a lesson he must learn for himself.  All Emily can do is wait and hope that their love is strong enough to overcome his ambitions.
