Timeshare: Second Time Around by Joshua Dann is the second novel
in the continuing series centred around Timeshare Unlimited, the futuristic
time travel agency.
Second Time Around sees the return of John Surrey and Althea Rowland, now living in the year 2007 and tangled up in another plot that takes them into the past again.
It is the year 2007 and although they were last looking forward to a life of bliss together, John and Althea find that settling down together in the future is easier said than done.
For Althea the changes that have occurred over the last decades are becoming a strain to cope with. The foods she likes are banned; she is not allowed to light up a cigarette whenever she wants to; and no matter how gently John and the doctors at Timeshare try to ease her into the future she is still finding it difficult to adjust.
When John receives his next assignment, Althea decides she will not stay in the 21st Century alone and together they travel back to the Roaring 20's in search of the latest client to disappear.
Mitchell I. Levitan is a successful young filmmaker who was born wealthy and took a trip back to the 20's to see if he could make it on his own. Now he is missing and John and Althea are on his trail. The first stop is Los Angeles but the journey will take them right across America to Chicago, New York and Washington D.C, both in the 20's and the 21st century.
Each stop on the search leads to more questions as they struggle to piece the puzzle together and attempt to discover the reason why the millionaire filmmaker is so determined to elude them.
Joining John for his second trip back is Terry Rappaport, a man with his own agenda and one of John's best friends. Also an expert parachute jumper, a useful talent as the two men are forced to parachute into the 20's as they try to save time in their search.
The first novel in this series was set in the war-ravaged 40's and John took the chance to rub shoulders with film stars and celebrities. This time around John is meeting the mobsters and the danger element is in the form of these villains rather than the war.
There are lots of interesting pieces in this book besides the main plot
which is as entertaining as the last. Some of the highlights that
I found especially interesting are:
If you liked the first novel you will love the second. Time travel science fiction with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure. Original and inventive.
