Vampire

Single White Vampire by Lynsay Sands is a modern day vampire romance with a difference.
Lucern is a vampire of some 600 years but unlike most vampires in today's romances he is certainly not alone in the world. Instead he is surrounded by his family consisting of two brothers, one sister and an interfering mother.
Lucern now makes his living as a writer. He had begun by writing historical texts but his latest works sell as paranormal romance novels. What no one but his family knows is that they are still historical texts for Lucern's books are the stories of the love lives of his parents and two of his siblings.
Lucern does not want publicity for his books, knowing that it could endanger not only him but his family if the truth is discovered. But when he finds himself with a new editor he finds himself in a battle of wills to keep his distance from his fans.
Kate C Leever is a new editor who has found the author to prove herself. The only problem is that he takes months to answer her letters and always replies to her requests to do publicity events with a forceful "no". So deciding that a face to face meeting is in order she descends on Lucern's doorstep to try and talk him into doing a book tour or interview.
Manipulating her way into his house Kate can seem to make no headway on her quest until she finds help in the form of Lucern's mother, who has decided that Kate would be perfect for her son...because Lucern cannot read Kate's mind or control her thoughts.
Lucern realises that the only way to get rid of Kate is to agree to do one of her interviews and so takes his mother's advice to do the "Romantic Times Thing". Only after he has agreed does he discover that he has been tricked into doing a Convention. A bit of further manipulation from his mother and Lucern finds himself the star attraction at the Convention and fighting his own attraction for his pushy editor.
Kate meanwhile is starting to realise that there is something decidedly odd about Lucern and it is not long before she discovers that he is a real life vampire. Now at this point in most novels the heroine runs screaming or faints or does something equally predictable...not Kate though...her reaction will have you laughing out loud as she charges to confront Lucern who had the nerve to bite her.
Fast paced and extremely funny I am hard pressed to pick a favourite scene there are just so many of them. The morning when Kate realises the truth is truly delightful and the scene when Lucern finds his costume caught to a table cloth is classic slapstick comedy.
This novel also has the unique twist in that it is peppered with the romance writing in-jokes and an amusing cameo appearance that any Romantic Times reader will recognise.
And best of all...it is the first book in a series about this family. The next book Love Bites is set to hit the shelves in January 2004.
