Timeswept Passion

Timeswept Passion by Joyce Carlow Timeswept Passion by Joyce Carlow is set in New Orleans where Julie Hart finds herself swept back in time to the American Revolution.

Julie Hart is virtually alone in the world, with few friends and no close family.  On the spur of the moment she chooses to go to New Orleans with an old friend.  But time has taken it's toll and finding herself having grown apart from her friend she decides to explore New Orleans alone.

Taking in the sites and the museums she is shocked that by opening a dolls house modeled on an actual building she can find herself in the real building, wearing old fashioned clothes, and in the very dangerous 1779.

Mistaken for a spy Julie is held prisoner in the house of the legendary Desiree Coteau.
Her only link with the past is an award she had recently received for her costume designing skills.  Hiding it within the mattress she soon finds an opportunity to escape but has not the time to retrieve it.

But New Orleans during the Mardi Gras in the 18th Century is no place for a lone woman.

Rescued by one of her captors she is soon returned to the house.  What Julie does not know is that in her absence Desiree has discovered her secret of time travel and intends to use this to her own advantage.  For in knowledge there is profit...

Although it is Julie who is believed to be a spy it is she who is spied on.  The danger comes from all sides as everyone tries to discover just how she managed to appear in the house without being observed by any of the revolutionaries, and just how much she heard.

The person most convinced she is a spy is Officer Brady McCormick.  Not surprisingly since any number of coincidences lead him to believe that there is certainly a spy in his midst - it is only a question of who.

Despite all of his misgivings Brady finds himself falling in love with Julie and he cannot help but hope that she is not the spy he is convinced she is.

Their love soon grows but so does the danger surrounding them as the traitors of the revolution plot to bring about their downfalls.

Without giving away just who the traitors are (and thus ruining the plot) all I can say is that this is a very good read and certainly makes a change to the American Civil War - which is rather popular with the time travel novelists.
