Mystic Memories

Mystic Memories by Susan Leslie LiepitzMystic Memories by Susan Leslie Liepitz is the eleventh book in the Time Passages series published by  Jove/Putnam Berkley.

Cara Edwards is a psychic private investigator who is hired to trace a young boy who has gone missing on a school field trip on the Mystic, a reconstructed ship where everything is acted out as it would have been in the past.

Although sceptical of her ability to find the boy the owner of the Mystic allows her to join the crew on board on the condition that she undergoes training and remains in character throughout her stay.

Staying in the same cabin as Andrew, (the young boy), Cara soon finds out that he has not disappeared overboard but has walked through a wall and into the past, into the year 1833!

The trail Andrew has left is not easy to follow and Cara enlists the help of Captain Blake Masters to find the young boy.  Insisting that she is a widow and Andrew is her own son she soon finds herself caught in a web of lies as she evades the truth that would brand her insane and lose her only chance of finding the boy.

Blake Masters is a man who knows from experience just how badly young boys can be treated when they are first taken on board ships.  The life on the sea is tough for them and he knows that he must help Cara to find her 'son' before he too is subjected to the cruelties of life at sea and is lost forever.

Guided by her Aunt Gaby who appears in many forms while Cara is journeying through the past Cara finds herself and Blake thrown together and soon the inevitable happens and Cara and Blake are soon hoping against hope that they can make a life together.  But it seems that this is not meant to be for Cara is determined to find Andrew and she must return with him to the future and Blake must remain where he belongs, in the past.

However, all is not as it seems and Cara needs all her psychic abilities to trace Andrew and unravel the mystery of the Mystic and it's portal through time.

A brilliant mystery book that appears to be nicely set up for sequel.  Though this may not be the case I look forward to reading more of this author's work.
