My Lady in Time by Angie Ray is the tenth book in the Time Passages series published by  Jove/Putnam Berkley and is a story every woman will love.

Derek Sinclair is a handsome playboy.  Without a care in the world he makes his way through life without accepting responsibility for anyone or anything.

Heedless of the consequences of his actions Derek is the last person who would be described as a knight in shining armour ready to rescue the damsel in distress.

But when the ghost of Allison Pelsworth appears to him in the home of his grandmother he finds that a simple misunderstanding over the meaning of a word that has changed over the centuries can have the most terrifying consequences.

Allison (Allie) Pelsworth is a ghost.  With the power of the Pelworth Emerald she can transport a man back in time to when she was alive and hopefully save her beloved castle from disaster.  All she needs is one man to agree to come.  Derek does not seem like a hopeful candidate but she is desperate and he is as good as anyone.

When Derek finds himself in the year 1498 he is dismayed to find that Allie does not remember him.  But his own memory is intact and he carries out his part in her plan to save the castle.  Walking into the hall he declares to one and all that he is her "true love" and demands that she marry only him and not Wilfred, the man who will be responsible for the loss of the castle.

Most people find his declaration humorous and romantic.  Allie's father is convinced enough to give him time to train as a knight and become worthy of his daughter's hand.  Only Allie finds his proposal unwanted.

Unable to find the magical emerald Derek finds that he is trapped in the past and decides that he will just have to resign himself to waiting for her real "true love" to appear and bluff his way through the punishing training.

Allie is convinced that Derek is an impostor and sets about devising the most humiliating and annoying tasks for him to perform in the hope that he will leave.  This is the cue for plenty of humorous scenarios as Derek struggles to appease Allie and gain her trust enough for her to send him home.

The longer Derek remains in the past the more he is attracted to Allie and the less he is sure that he wants to leave.

But it is only when Derek finds himself betrayed that he starts to grow up and becomes the knight that Allie needs.  But stinging from the betrayal he no longer wishes to remain in the past at all and is determined that she will pay for her actions.

A very humorous story that portrays the perfect punishment for every playboy and one of the few books I would dearly love to see portrayed on the screen.  It has all the ingredients for a terrific comedy.
