The More I See You

The More I See You by Lynn KurlandThe More I See You by Lynn Kurland is a further time travel novel in the continuing De Piaget family novels.  However like the others in the series it stands on its own too.

Composer Jessica Blakely is having the holiday from hell.  A blind date that had resulted in a holiday to England had seemed like a good idea at the time, but now she was not so sure.  After being humiliated in front of a crowd of tourists and subjected to her boring date’s presence for more time than she can stand she escapes to the gardens of the mansion/castle she is staying in.

Wishing on a star seemed like a harmless diversion at the time too…a wish for a fair and gallant knight, with lots of chivalry, a steady job, an even temper, a house with room enough for a concert grand piano, and who would love her at least as much as he loved himself…what more could she ask for?

What she did not expect was to find herself sent back in time to the year 1260 and into the arms of Richard De Galtres.

Lifting her out of the way of his horse, (named Horse), Richard carried her into his brother Hugh’s castle where he was unwillingly staying to try and help him sort out the problems with his estate.

His visit is shortened however when Hugh tries to attack Jessica and Richard finds himself taking the troublesome woman back to his own castle at Burwyke-on-the-Sea.

Thinking at first that it is some sort of practical joke Jessica is soon persuaded that she has indeed travelled back in time.  But her even-tempered and chivalrous knight does not appear to be forthcoming. Instead she finds herself locking horns with the scowling Richard who has rarely been seen to smile and never known to laugh.

But the longer that she remains in the past the more she realises that she is falling in love with the moody knight, now all she needs to do is find a way to his heart past all the barriers that he has built up around him.

Unable to do anything about liberating the women of the thirteenth century she can at least prove her own worth and sets about using her knowledge of modern architecture to re-build the castle that Richard had torn down in an attempt to rid himself of any reminder of his miserable childhood in the building.

Slowly Jessica finds a way to open Richard’s heart to her but she is never completely sure of his feelings for her as he finds it hard to show how much he cares.

But whilst most of Richard’s men want their friend to find happiness at long last not all are as generous and within their midst are those who would gladly see both Richard and Jessica destroyed, including the man who had seen Jessica appear out of nowhere and it convinced that she is an evil faery.

A wonderful addition to the continuing series and of the same high standard that sets Ms Kurland’s novels apart from the rest of the genre.

With a whole host of vividly drawn characters including the amusing Hamlet, whose task in life is to instruct the other knights (including Richard) how to woo and win women; the torturer Godwin with a dark talent and darker sense of humour; and Richard’s youngest brother Warren who is eager to follow in his brother’s footsteps but is rather inept at the knightly tasks.

Not to mention the return of some old favourites including the unforgettable Kendrick (Stardust of Yesterday) before he met his gruesome fate and began his own journey towards true love.

A whole host of characters who I hope we will see more of in future novels.

If you have liked her other novels this one should be missed under no circumstances.  They get better and better and you will not be disappointed in The More I See You.
