A Margin in Time by Golden Heart Winner Laura Hayden is the unusual
tale J Barrett Callan V who chooses to travel back in time and take the
place of his great-great-grandfather Johnny Callaghan as Sheriff of Margin.
The living image of his ancestor he swaps places to get away from his 20th century problems, the most important of which is he has been framed for embezzlement by his trusted friend Crawford James.
Taking the last minute chance of escape he takes over as Sheriff without thinking things through first. As Sheriff he expected to shoot, ride and act just as his ancestor. None of which he can do with any ease.
But to help him through his trials in the wild west is the beautiful, independent Emma Nolan and the mysterious time travelling plumber Harvey.
Emma has never met anyone like Barrett before and she knows instinctively that somehow Johnny has changed but it is not until she discovers his graduation ring that she confronts him and the truth comes out.
She believes him instantly and immediately starts to question him about the stories of Sherlock Holmes, which made a very refreshing change from the usual responses of madness, witchcraft and other such explanations for the hero or heroine who has come through time.
Barrett enlists Emma's help to complete his task of persuading the towns people to keep their shares in the local mine and somehow rectify his own future.
With lots of twists to the plot Laura Hayden keeps us guessing to the end and just when you think there can be no more shocks - low and behold - another surprise.
