      Phantom Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Phantom Lover by Sherrily Kenyon is her introduction to the Dream-Hunters who have been referred to in some of her Dark-Hunter novels.

Erin has not been sleeping well of late.  Plagued by nightmares her work is starting to suffer and she is running out of ideas for how to get a good night sleep.

Falling asleep at work she once again finds herself searching for a way out of a cavern where a talking dragon is trying to keep her captive.  Running for her life from a dragon and a snake-woman who are fighting over her she summons up a champion to save her.

He arrives in the form of V'Aidan, a handsome warrior who battles for her and takes her away from the dangers.  Her nightmare becomes far more pleasant after this turn of events although when she wakes up in her office after the erotic encounter she is more than a little embarrassed.

On the advice of a co-worker Erin goes to see a man who specialises in dreams and with the knowledge he gives her she begins to believe that the creatures and man in her dreams are actually real and she wonders how she will find the literal man of her dreams whilst she is awake.

V'Aidan meanwhile is very much alive, of not mortal, and wants Erin in his life, but he is forbidden to go to her again and defies everyone to return to her dreams, but always fears that should she discover the truth about him she would turn away from him forever.

Phantom Lover introduces the Skotos and the Oneroi and the world of the Dream-Hunters.  I for one hope it is not too long before this world is opened up with a full length novel.  There is only so much can be told in an anthology story and I can't help but feel that this novel might have been somewhat longer than it was.

Although it was touching and sweet with a couple of twists to it, I felt that the secondary characters were a weak point.  Although Erin and V'Aidan were well portrayed the other host of characters were rather two dimensional.  Perhaps in a longer novel they would have the time and opportunity to develop too.
