Love Once & Forever

Love Once and Forever by Flora SpeerLove Once & Forever by Flora Speer is technically a time travel romance novel, and part of the Leisure Timeswept series.  However when reading this novel it becomes apparent that it far more like a futuristic novel than a time travel.

Laura is having a bad day.  She has just broken up with her fiancé and now she is in the middle of the desert, which a few minutes ago was the sea.

Wandering in the surf Laura had discovered a beautiful egg like shape which when placed in direct sun light carried her to another world.

Stuck in the middle of the desert Laura could see that no help was forthcoming and decided to make her own way back to whatever civilisation she could find.

Her efforts were halted however with the approach of a flying saucer and the aliens who appeared and kidnapped her.

On entering the saucer it soon becomes clear that the beings who have abducted her as as human as she is.  And she is not the only one to have been taken from her home so abruptly.

Eager to know where she is Laura and the other "kidnapped" people are amazed to realise that they are in a world so far back in time it is not recorded in history as anything more than a myth.

Laura, Hua Te (a 12th century mage), Chac (an Aztec High Priest) and Marica (a 22nd Century woman), have been brought back in time by the Timestones to help the people of Issa to save their world from an approaching asteroid.

They have a quarter of a year to form a plan to save the last remaining people of Earth and to ensure the survival of the human race.  No easy task, especially when one of the visitors is determined to sabotage the plans and return home with a handsome profit.

Laura meanwhile finds herself living on borrowed time as she starts to fall from Kentir, the leader of the project and the man who has the lives of all of them in his hands.

But she fears that this short time is all they will have together and that once the asteroid reaches Earth she will be parted from Kentir forever.

This fascinating novel is a time travel set in a time when the face of the Earth was so different it would not be recognised as the same planet we are on today; a time where the Earth is straight on it's axis and where there is no moon to light the night sky.

Ms Speer offers her readers an exciting ride back into the distant past with interesting theories to how the world would react to an approaching disaster on such a large scale.  Although I found it difficult to credit the lack of panic shown by the people of Issa, at least the heroine noticed the same thing.

However because the world Ms Speer creates in this time travel novel is not one with any reference to recorded history and based more on a fantastic imagination than historical facts, I have decided for this reason to place it in the Futuristic and Other World section.

Also, the world of Issa is portrayed as far more advanced in many ways than the 20th century, for these people have mastered space and time travel and the knowledge has merely been lost to the disaster about to destroy the world.  I am sure you will agree that this is more a futuristic reference and not time travel.

A great story when viewed in the futuristic light, and for the fans of time travel who have not ventured into the futuristic genre, this would be an ideal novel to break the ice with.

Set against the backdrop of a world about to end this story of love and hope is a tension filled marvel with a wonderfully imaginative setting to equal that of Atlantis.
