Lord of the Storm by Justine Davis is a futuristic novel that is currently hard to find but worth tracking down.

Captain Shaylah Graymist is a fighter pilot for the Coalition and is one of the best in the business.  With many rewards for her work, the latest is Wolf, a sexual slave who does not bow to the masters who have conquered his people.

Named Wolf because he had been known to gnaw off his own hands to free himself from his chains, he is one of only a few survivors from the planet Trios.  Now he has been given to his new master Shaylah and he will be looking for an opportunity to escape at every turn.

Shaylah’s life ambition was to become a pilot.  The only way she could achieve her dream was to rise amongst the ranks within the Coalition.  But that did not mean that she believed or approved of everything she saw or everything the Coalition stood for.  And when Wolf presented himself at her door for her pleasure she knew that no matter how much she wanted him she could not have him as a slave.

Sending him away, she has no idea that he will be punished for not serving her.

When she discovers what has happened she demands that he serve her for the entire time she is on leave from flying.  And together they will find a love that is forbidden to both of their races.

Using a powerful collar the Coalition control the slaves into doing whatever they want them to.  But there is one thing that they cannot force Wolf to do and when Shaylah succeeds where the Coalition failed she finds that she has, in one night, destroyed the relationship they have built and lost forever the trust that was built between her and Wolf.

Meanwhile on Trios the few remaining people are working towards a rebellion against the Coalition.  They just need a leader to guide them and Wolf is determined to return to his home and see what he can do to help free them.  He has no idea what will greet him there but it cannot be worse than the horrors he has already seen and those he will encounter on his journey home.

When Shaylah is called back to work she leaves Wolf and finds herself in the centre of the rebellion, and working against Wolf’s people.  Meanwhile Wolf is sold on to another buyer and seems to be out of Shaylah’s reach forever.

But all is not lost as she vows to track down the man she has come to love and free him once and for all.  But has she lost him forever by her foolish actions.  Can he learn to trust her again even despite of what she has done or will he question her every move and lose their new-found love to suspicion and hatred.

And once he is free where will the couple go to escape the far-reaching grasp of the Coalition who will enslave Shaylah for her actions in freeing Wolf and betraying them.

Lord of the Storm is a captivating novel with a fast pace and a host of intriguing characters who make their way through the stars and into the hearts of the reader in their quest for freedom and true love.  This is one of those novels that sets the standard for the futuristic genre.
