Kiss of the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon is a Dark-Hunter novel.
This is the story of Wulf Tryggvasen the cursed Dark-Hunter who was tricked into the service of Artemis by a Dark-Huntress. He is a Dark-Hunter who was not granted an act of vengeance. He is also cursed in that no one can remember him within minutes of him leaving their presence.
This book is an excellent addition to a series which gets better and better.
This story begins at the same time as the Night Embrace novel and runs parallel to the events in that one and Dance with the Devil. The conclusion of this novel takes place later than the events in the other two novels in the timeline of the series.
Wulf, tricked into the service of Artemis knows that unlike his brethren there is no way for him to win his freedom through the love of a woman. With his curse stopping him from being remembered he knows that no woman will ever remember him long enough to fall in love with him and return his soul to him.
So he has made his life as best he can with the only humans who remember him being the Squires who are descended from his brother.
Unfortunately that line is nearly at an end and the last remaining Squire and member of his family is Christopher Eriksson, a young college student who does not seem to be able to keep a girlfriend and is in no hurry to continue the family line.
Over-protective towards Chris in the extreme Wulf has practically raised the boy but the one thing he cannot seem to do is persuade the boy to "procreate". Chris's latest girlfriend has just dumped him as she thinks that he's a drug dealer, a conclusion come to because of the life that he appears to lead.
Which all affords for some very amusing scenes and a large portion of the humour in this novel.
But persuading his Squire to find a woman to give him children is about to take a back seat when Wulf saves the life of the missing heiress Cassandra Peters.
Cassandra has spent all of her life on the run from those who would see her dead. She is the last of the direct descendants of Apollo and there are those that believe that killing her will free them from the curse that ends their lives on their 27th birthdays.
Cassandra is only months away from that birthday herself but believes in living life to the full and as normally as possible. With her bodyguard Katra they try to ensure that she maintains as normal a life as she can, even going to college (coincidentally she is on the same course as Chris).
The latest attack on her in a night club though is broken up when she is saved by Wulf who she recalls later in her dreams. What she does not realise is that the dreams she has been having are very real and that Wulf is having the same dreams as she.
Wulf has no intention of getting involved with the half-Apollite heiress who he believes has been messing with his head. But orders from Ash, the Dark-Hunter leader, force him to find her and protect her.
Finding themselves under siege and on the run they soon discover that the daimons that are after her are no ordinary ones. They are more powerful and more dangerous than any others and they are determined to see her dead and end the Apollite curse.
But even though Cassandra remembers Wulf what hope do they have for a life together when the curse will take life in just a few months time?
Intricately plotted and with plenty more teasers for Ash's own story Kiss of the Night is intriguing and riveting. We get to see more about the different Apollite races and how they cope with the curse, and how they see the Dark-Hunters. An interesting perspective and one which was only glossed over previously.
We also get to meet more new characters and see more of some of the characters we have previously met. All wonderfully woven together. At times amusing and at times touching this book should not be missed by any Dark-Hunter addict.
I hope that there were not too many spoilers in that for you. If you either like spoilers or have read the book and would like to discuss the new clues in this book about the future ones in the series then please click here.
