The
Highlander’s Touch by Karen Marie Moning is another captivating tale from
a relatively new author who is fast becoming one of the most popular of
the time travel romance genre.
The Highlander’s Touch sees the return of Adam Black who once again is meddling in the lives of mortals.
Circenn Brodie has just managed to lose a valuable chest containing a sacred flask belonging to Adam’s people. Using his rusty powers of magic he casts a spell that the flask will return to him the moment someone touches it. He then swears to Adam that he will keep his promise to kill whoever brings the flask to him.
Lisa Stone is a 21st century woman who loves history but because of her mother’s illness the closest she comes to working in the profession is cleaning in a museum. Then one night she is cleaning in one of the offices when she is tempted to open the Pandora’s box that contains the cursed flask. Before she knows what has happened she is falling back in time to the year 1314 and is standing face to face with the man who has sworn to kill her.
For the first time in his life Circenn Brodie is unable to keep an oath he had made. And there follows a fast-paced and enthralling tale with plenty of humour as Circenn and Lisa fight to keep the love they have found. But each of them has a secret that could destroy their newfound happiness…
…And keeping a close eye on things is the manipulative Adam Black who has his own hidden agenda and will continue to meddle in their lives until he achieves his own secret goals.
Vastly amusing with some great plot twists this is a keeper that will keep the reader guessing until the end.
With a more detailed look at Adam’s people, the Tuatha de Danaan, we learn much more about Adam and the powers that he and his race command.
The magic is in abundance and the humour is sharp and witty with a thoroughly
modern touch, for instance when Lisa compares her plight with that of Buffy
when she discovered her lot in life was fighting vampires. Great
fun – if you can pull an all-nighter to read this one!
