HeartMate
HeartMate by Robin D Owens is the first book
of the Magical Love series from Jove to be a futuristic novel. Until
now there have been spells, potions, fae and genies etc. Now we have
a whole new world created by Robin D Owens.
On the planet Celta most people have a psychic ability. Rand T’Ash is a powerful nobleman with a darker history. But he has now regained his birthright and is searching for his HeartMate.
To find her he has created a HeartGift in the form of a necklace, which will bring his partner to his side so they can begin their lives together.
Danith Mallow is a woman with little psychic power at all. But it is she who is drawn to the necklace where it is displayed in T’Ash’s shop.
Unable to accept that she is his HeartMate, Danith rejects T’Ash and his gift and it is up to T’Ash to win her round if he is to make her his HeartMate.
With the help of his cat, Zanth, T’Ash seeks to not only convince Danith that she belongs with him, but also to convince her that she has her own psychic ability, or Flair as it is called. But Danith, having been tested before, is convinced she has none and, with her own cat, Pansy, rejects T’Ash again and again.
I have to say that the cats sometimes steal the scenes in this novel. Adorable and with their own personalities they easily steal the limelight from everyone else. You can check out Robin’s website to see the real cats that these characters are based on.
With a little mystery and plenty of danger added into the mix we are soon set on an exciting ride as T’Ash finds himself not only fighting to win Danith over but also fighting for their lives.
In creating this world Robin D Owens has shown us briefly with this first novel a world that in some ways is vastly different from our own but in others is startlingly similar. In particular the political and social problems of society in general are given a refreshing twist but are still, basically, the same as those problems we face today.
With lots of room for sequels this looks to be the start of an intriguing series.
A new twist on the Magical Love genre, this fresh
voice will set the standard for the others.
