Everything in its Time

Everything in its Time by Dee DavisEverything In Its Time by Dee Davis is part of the outstanding Time Passages series.

The setting of this time travel romance is Duncreag, Scotland and is the story of a modern woman, Katherine St. Claire and a fifteenth century Scottish Laird, Iain Mackintosh.

On holiday in Scotland Katherine is not prepared for the passionate and magical encounter that will haunt her for the years to come.  When she walks though the doorway into the room adjoining her bedroom she has no way of knowing that she has in fact travelled back in time.

Iain Mackintosh has no idea who the woman who has invaded his room is but he knows that he cannot let her go without first making her his own.

After a night of passion Katherine is shocked by what she has done and quickly returns to her own room while Iain appears to sleep.  And when she returns to her room she returns to the modern world again too.

Iain watched the mysterious beauty leave his side as he gave her the time to adjust to what had happened between them.  Once she has gone however he realises that he should follow her and makes his way to the door she has just travelled through.  Unfortunately, instead of finding the woman whose name he does not even know, he finds an empty room and a mystery as to how she could have left him through a barred door.

Fearful that he had dreamed the entire episode he scours the rooms looking for some sign that she had been there and finds it in the form of an earring lying in his bed.

Katherine meanwhile has ventured once more into the room where Iain was sleeping only to find that it was not the room that she had been in the night before.  It is then she realises that she had in fact travelled through time.

Years later neither Katherine nor Iain have forgotten the other.  Iain has decided that he will have no other for his wife and Katherine is unable to forget her feelings for Iain long enough to find happiness in her modern world.  Dreams of Iain and what they shared haunt her mind until she resolves to face the matter once and for all.

Confiding in her brother Jeff and her best friend Elaine she plans to travel back to Scotland and soon she finds that the closer she gets the more vivid the dreams become.

Soon everything is in place and she finds herself once more in the past, this time in the year 1467.  Time has passed for both of them but they soon find that their feelings are the same as they were before and Katherine knows that she cannot leave Iain again, even if he were to let her.

Meanwhile in the 20th century Jeff and Elaine are frantic with worry when they discover Katherine is missing.  They had both heard her stories about travelling through time but until now they had only humoured her.  Now they realise that just maybe she was telling the truth and they do a little detective work to find out what has happened to her.  What they find is not what they were expecting.  Far from the happy ever after that Katherine had been dreaming of, they find that her life was one of unhappiness and disappointment.  Unable to let this happen Jeff resolves to travel back in time too and save Katherine from the life she is about to lead.

Fast paced with a strong mystery element this is a well thought out time travel romance that kept me guessing until the very end.

With strong lead characters that were extremely well written there is also a wonderful supporting cast of secondary characters the best of which are Jeff and Elaine.

Everything In Its Time is a wonderful addition to the Time Passages series and should be read by everyone who loves the Scottish setting made popular by the Outlander series.
