Etched in Stone by Dimitri Eann is a time travel romance set in the distant past of ancient Egypt. Jayna Monroe is an archaeologist who has just made the discovery of a lifetime by locating the long lost tomb of the Great King Amony.  But her joy in finding the tomb is short-lived as she finds herself lost and trapped and running out of air.  As her life ebbs to a close she reads the story of King Amony who was murdered by his Queen, but before she can find an ending to the tale she finds herself living it.

Instead of dying Jayna finds herself sent back in time and into the body of the murderous queen.  Swept into the events Jayna must use all her knowledge of ancient Egypt and all of her wits to survive amidst the plots and intrigues of the royal court.

Added to that Jayna has a further problem in that she is soon falling in love with King Amony, the man she is destined to kill and who is the victim of all the plots she finds herself unwilling entangled in.

Unsure of who to believe Jayna cannot believe that the man she is growing to love deserves to die…even if all of the plotters are convinced otherwise and include Jayna’s own parents and closest friends.  Jayna must ensure that she discovers the truth and averts the coming disaster before she loses more than just her newfound love, but her life as well.  For if she is not with the plotters she is against them and the men and women who calmly plot the death of their king would have no problem with dispatching themselves of her too if she is seen to betray their cause.

…And every time that Jayna shows affection to her husband she steps that little bit closer into the danger she must avoid.

Rich with detail this time travel novel set in the fairly untouched setting of ancient Egypt is engrossing from the first page.  The characters are well drawn and grow steadily as the story progresses to its conclusion.

Etched in Stone should find a place as permanent as the title on every reader’s shelf.
