Enchanting

      Enchanting by Sharon Green

Enchanting by Sharon Green is a book which came to my attention though the Elusive Title part of my site. The plot described sounded so good I too was waiting to see if anyone could solve the mystery of what book it was. Thankfully someone did and I easily found a copy at an online used book store.

Deanne Lane is a writer who has created a wonderful hero in her novels who has captivated readers with his adventures. Tarren the Barbarian. However unknown to Deanne Tarren is a real man, living in an alternate world and he is not too pleased at having his every move dictated by an unknown force. Not least of which because whatever force is controlling him does not know a thing about how he would really do things. Having water to drink instead of wine at the end of a battle and wearing the awful clothing and unsuitably placed sword are only minor irritations compared to risking his life time and again on pointless quests for treasure. He and his men have enough treasure to buy a kingdom but do not have control of their lives long enough to do anything with it.

Tarren and his friend Fael have been subjected to the strange phenomena which has caused their lives to no longer be their own for long enough. Fael believes that Tarren must have somehow offended a wizard even though Tarren has never met one. So deciding enough is enough Tarren decides to travel to the wizard Massaelae to seek an end to the curse.

Telling his story to the wizard he enlists his help and finds himself face to face with his tormentor. But Deanne naturally does not believe Tarren is who he says he is and because his time is short he does the only thing he can do to which is drag her into his world.

Deanne is shocked to find herself in another world and even more so to find that Tarren is about to start living her latest book. Tarren wants advance warning of what is to come so that he can prepare for it instead of being taken by surprise again.

And so Deanne is swept into the world of her novel and watches the story play out before her eyes. But now she is in the story too and finds herself falling for the hero but with the knowledge that in this book she has written in a woman for him to fall in love with.

What Deanne needs to learn is that no magic or force can persuade someone as to who they should fall in love with.

This book is highly amusing and well thought out. One can’t help but wonder if any of the other heroes of novels are cursing the writers for what they are made to go through.
