A Dark & Stormy Night by Anne Stuart is book 702 in the Harlequin American Romance "More than Men" series.

Katie Flynn is a women who loves the danger of storms and when a hurricane is heading her way she decides against staying inside at a hotel and heads out towards the coast to watch the event.
 

While driving along the coast of Maine she soon finds that the danger of the storm is closer than she thought and when a fallen tree blocks her path she finds herself lost near the cliffs.

Following the direction of a women who she believes is a ghost Katie finds her path crossing that of Jamie O'Neal a reclusive man who lives alone on the cliffs with only his housekeeper and her son for company.

After being saved from falling over the cliff with her car Katie finds herself trapped in the cliff top house with O'Neal who makes it perfectly clear that he does not want her around him.  But even though he does not want her to stay and she is eager to be gone, the ghosts of O'Neal's family have other ideas.

For fifteen years O'Neal has lived alone tormenting himself with the knowledge that he is cursed.  For when the rest of his family drowned in the ocean he survived because he has the ability to transform into the shape of a seal, an ability that he inherited from his ancestors and comes around every generation or so.

O'Neal believes that not only would any person who knew his secret be revolted at it but that somehow the curse would endanger anyone he let close to him, as he believes it endangered his family.

With this in mind he makes himself as rude and inhospitable as possible to make sure that Katie leaves at the first available opportunity, despite his growing attraction to her which soon borders on obsession.

But the hurricane has no intention of letting up and they are flung together in the isolated house where O'Neal is not the only one with a secret.

Unbeknown to either O'Neal or Katie, the housekeeper and her son have their own hidden agenda which cannot be carried out until O'Neal and anyone else who is standing in the way of their appropriation of his fortune is taken care of.....

This book is a fast read and a very enjoyable one for a stormy evening inside away from the weather.  It is shorter than the usual novels that I read but despite this I found it very enjoyable and well worth the effort I made to make an exception and read a series romance.
