Danger is Sweet

Danger is Sweet by Cornelia Amiri is an e-book published by Awe-Struck E-Books.

Malcolm is a selkie, part man and part seal, following his drowning as a youth.  Returning to the land he is not prepared for his cousin Kenneth to betray him and steal his seal skin and thus tie him to the land.

Kenneth McAlpin is the king of the Scots and he knows that he needs Malcolm to help to keep his position.  Taking his seal skin and tying him to the land seems a perfectly acceptable thing to do in 9th century Scotland.

Malcolm resents being kept prisoner by his cousin but has no choice but to stay at his side until he can get his seal skin back and return to the sea as he yearns to do.

Malcolm's life is further complicated at the arrival of Bethoc, a woman seeking revenge on Kenneth for what she believes to have been the murder of her father and her betrothed.  Wild with vengeance she is the last thing that Malcolm needs in his life.  But in her life she is when he agrees to marry her rather than kill her as Kenneth requests.

Trapped into the marriage Malcolm finds himself falling for his fiery wife as she too falls in love with her mysterious husband.

Bethoc does not want to believe that Malcolm is not the brutal Scot she pictures them all as being but she cannot deny the truth of her own eyes when she visits the site of her father's death.  Wanting to know more about the stranger she has found herself married to she questions the locals about his past and finds that the more she discovers the more the mystery deepens.

Played out in the dangerous times when Kenneth McAlpin is battling to unite the land Malcolm and his new wife are close to the danger that surrounds the Scottish King.

When that danger is upon them Malcolm knows he must go back to the sea in order to save the woman he loves.  But can he return to the sea forever and leave her behind?

Needing to be wild and free is in his nature but can he be happy without Bethoc?

More importantly how will Bethoc handle the truth?  She has heard the legends of the selkies but never has she met one and she knows that no matter what Malcolm feels for her he will always be yearning for the sea.

A wonderful historical selkie tale.  My only complaint is that the story was a little shorter than I prefer.  But still it is an enchanting new tale about an old myth.
