Culzean Castle in Scotland is also a country park and covers an extensive area. As such it is one of those places where you really need all day to look round everything. In fact I suspect that one day would not be anywhere near enough.
Unfortunately I did not have all day to look around and as such there is far more to see at Culzean than is featured here.

Culzean is situated on the coast of Scotland and as you can see from the postcard image directly below it is right on the coast!
One of the walks I would have liked to have time to take is the Cliff Walk along the coast line, unfortunately I did not have the time.

Culzean Castle is toured either with a guide or alone. However to tour the building alone was very difficult on the day of my visit due to the popularity of the building. We quickly found ourselves part of a tour group having caught up with one of the tours within a couple of rooms.

One thing that stands out about Culzean is that all the rooms are lavishly decorated. There is none that stands out as being bare or dark. As such it is hard to pick out a favourite from amongst the many rooms on offer to see. However The Saloon was my favourite as the views from the window were unsurpassable. We are told that on a clear day you can see the tip of Northern Ireland on the horizon. The day I visited was a glorious summer day and sure enough you could clearly see Ireland across the water.

When the tour of the rooms is over there is a very impressive presentation in respect of General Eisenhower. The castle was given to the National Trust for Scotland by the Kennedy family in 1945 and at that time they asked that part of the castle be given to the General for his lifetime to show the Scots' gratitude to him.

Other things on offer at Culzean which I did not get chance to see include a Swan Pond Centre, a Deer Park Centre, Vinery and Walled Garden.
Thankfully I did get to see the castle itself, Camellia House, the Visitor Centre at the Home Farm and the Gas House Exhibition.

Finally, as you can see below this is just one of the views from the castle, and there is really no beating that view anywhere. I only wish my camera could have done it justice. I am grateful that this day was clearer than the day I visited Chirk Castle.
