Circles
in Time by Tess Mallory is part of the Timeswept series and is set partly
in my home county.
For those of you who know nothing about me I live in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. My house stands on land that was long ago part of Sherwood Forest.
But for the heroine of this novel that time long ago is about to become her present as she is sucked through time during the forming of a mysterious crop circle.
When I read this book I could not help but groan as Kendra O'Brien met Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. After all I have had the Robin Hood legends rammed down my throat for as long as I can remember. From the logo on the Leisure Centre to the Robin Hood Line Train to Nottingham, there is no escaping if you live in this area.
But even Robin Hood overkill could not stop me from enjoying this book. And if someone like me - who knows the Robin Hood legend backwards - can enjoy this book I am sure anyone can.
This is the story about journalist Kendra O'Brien who since the death of her husband and child lives life on the edge, cheating death at every turn, and not caring for the consequences of her actions.
Her Uncle and boss decides that she needs to hold back and gives her a new assignment - to study the mysterious crop circles in England and to look into the disappearance of Professor Ian McKay who was last seen studying them too.
Annoyed, but reckless as ever Kendra resigns herself to the job and goes to England where she witnesses the formation of one of these circles. But unable to resist she is drawn into the circle and finds herself thrust back in time and into the clutches of the handsome but tormented Naverre de Galliard.
Mistaken for a spy she is taken from Wiltshire to Nottingham where she is thrown into the dungeon and it is not long before she realises that she has been captured by the very same people the legends tell about. And that she is falling in love with a man sworn to kill good King Richard the Lionheart.
Kendra has the advantage of knowing the future to aid her in her quest to stop Naverre but she is also at a disadvantage, for she has brought with her into the past a loaded gun - a weapon never before in that time, and one that could accomplish the unthinkable - a drastic change in the course of history.
There are lots of new twists to the Robin Hood legend in this delightful story of passionate quests as Kendra and Naverre battle to overcome their pasts so that they can find a future together.
