The Cat’s Fancy by Julie Kenner is an unusual paranormal romance novel and offers a refreshingly different story for those readers who, like myself, crave originality.

Nicholas Goodman is a lawyer whose life is completely mapped out ahead of him.  Career-wise he is on the up and socially he is engaged to the daughter of one of his firm’s biggest clients. 

Living alone with only his adopted cat, Maggie, for company he is not prepared for the upheaval when Maggie the woman enters his orderly life.  Of course he has no idea that the naked woman on his doorstep is really his cat…

Maggie the cat is not entirely a cat, nor is she entirely anything else.  The only thing she knows is that she is in love with Nicholas and will risk anything to have him love her in return as a human being.

Old Tom, another cat, who possesses magical powers, grants her request and gives her until the stroke of midnight on All Hallows Eve to win her love.  But there are rules that must be obeyed.  She cannot tell Nicholas who she is and she returns to the form of a cat by day and is only a woman when the sun goes down.

She has one week to persuade Nicholas that his cat-loathing fiancée needs to be given the boot and that she is the one for him.  And only if Nicholas tells her that he loves her will she be allowed to remain in the form of a human.

Maggie quickly makes an ally of Nicholas’s sister Deena who sets about getting her a job and introducing her to the perils of living as a mortal woman.  Not to mention helping Maggie to persuade Nicholas that Angela is not the woman for him.

Reminiscent of The Little Mermaid this amusing tale of feline magic will thrill cat lovers and romance lovers everywhere.  Original and clever The Cat’s Fancy certainly took mine not least because the cat on the cover is very similar to my own little furball!
