Breath of Magic by Teresa Medeiros is the story of the time travelling witch Arian Whitewood who, by using a mysterious amulet finds herself the the late 20th century at the feet of the cold hearted billionaire Tristan Lennox.
In the 17th century Arian finds herself in the possession of her mother's emerald amulet. An amulet with powers she could never have imagined.
Using the device for childish tricks she arouses the suspicion of the villagers. After all dancing candlesticks and the traditional broomstick flight are a little hard to explain to the puritan community.
Abandoned to her fate by her stepfather she is offered salvation by the deceitful Reverend Linnet. Refusing his help she faces her punishment. Drowning in the local pond or if she survives a burning at the stake.
Using her powers through the emerald she finds herself thousands of miles and hundreds of years away from the danger of death from drowning. Instead she is facing decapitation by a loud dragon or helicopter as she later discovers.
Landing at the feet of Tristan Lennox she finds herself in the spotlight of a contest to find real magic. With the prize of $1 million she knows she can win but does not know if it is a trick to trap her into facing death once more.
Hiding her talents and biding her time she explores this strange century in her search for safety.

As he begins to accept Arian for what she is he finds himself falling in love with her and soon they set about making a life together. But their pasts, linked in a way neither could imagine, continue to beckon them to face the people who possess the key to the magic of time travel.
