Another Dawn

Another Dawn by Deb StoverAnother Dawn by Deb Stover is the latest time travel romance novel from this talented author.

Another Dawn is the story of Luke Nolan, a man wrongly convicted of murder at the age of 18 and who is about to face death in the electric chair.

After spending 11 years in jail it appears that finally his chances are all gone and that nothing can intervene to save him from execution.  But then fate offers Luke a second chance by sweeping him back in time to the year 1891 in an explosion that brings the jail tumbling down around him.

Taking the clothes from the compassionate priest who was in attendance Luke is about to run for his life when he hears the sounds of another survivor.

Sofie, the doctor in attendance at the execution is injured and there is no one else to help her; everyone else lays buried beneath the rubble.  Luke is torn between leaving her there and taking his chance to escape or helping her to safety.

But not only is Luke a man of honour, he also knows that Sofie is the one person in the room who cried for him as he faced the chair.  The only other person who showed him any compassion was the priest in attendance, the man whose identity he is about to take.  For Sofie has lost her memory in the explosion.

Deciding to take her to safety and then be on his way before her memory returns, Luke leads her down the mountain to the aptly named Redemption in Colorado.

Luke and Sofie's arrival in Redemption is a blessing to the townsfolk and they are soon caught up in the smallpox epidemic that is sweeping through the town.

Luke soon realises that they have travelled back in time and the authorities cannot reach him.  The only person who could reveal his identity is Sofie.

Sofie on the other hand has no idea what has happened she only knows that she does not fit in with the people she is helping.  She can recall no medical knowledge and certain things seem very strange to her.  For instance she can recall that there should be a switch near a door to bring light to the room but she cannot find one.

Sofie's other problem is her growing attraction for the bald, "sun-burned" priest who rescued her from dying on the mountain.

Luke meanwhile has not only figured out where and when he is but is beginning to look for the reason why.  He thinks he has found this reason when he sees a young boy by the name of Shane Latimer residing in the local jail waiting to be hung for murder.  The similarity to his own situation is striking and he is sure that he is here to help the young boy before moving on to start his own life again.

And like Sofie is beginning to fall for Luke, so he is starting to feel attracted to her.  Eleven years of isolation from women in a jail cell have taken their toll on Luke and he is more than ready to put an end to his celibacy.

But Luke knows that if he were to put aside his disguise of the priest, and tell her about their time travelling, it could be the trigger that restores Sofie's memory and put an end to his hopes of a new life.

But Luke will discover that Sofie is not the only one who has the power to take away his last chance of freedom and that only he has the power to get them their future together.

This book is quite simply wonderful.  Deb Stover weaves a story of sexual tension that draws the reader into the world of a desperate man with a second chance at life, and a young woman without a past who longs for a forbidden future.

The tension in this book is excellently portrayed and is played out to the inevitable conclusion.  Tension, suspense and romance combined into an enthralling combination that you won't be able to put down.

This is time travel romance at its best and by far Deb Stover's best work yet.  It is clearly written from the heart and all readers will take Luke Nolan into theirs.
